The California sycamores (genus: Platanus) are also still fairly small along the creekside, but in time they might reach 25 meters in height with large spreading branches, and will tower over many of the willows. Look for the large, hand-shaped leaves.
The roots of these large trees pull water from Bonita Creek channel. But how that water makes it all the way to the top of a 25-meter tall tree was a mystery for hundreds of years.
Be sure to check out Activity 1 - Weird Water to learn how trees pull water from their roots to their leaves.
